I have a 98 ES 300 with 63,000 miles on it and the master cylinder is failing. The pedal goes to the floor and have to pump to get pressure. Anyway the dealer said it was the master cylinder so I have a couple of questions.
Should the brake warning light have come on?
Should I consider other than OEM parts and ,if so, what manufacture do you recommend?
Any advice if I do it myself? The dealer wanted $650 which I thought was a little steep.

While I typically have no issue with aftermarket parts, in the case of safety related parts like this I prefer Lexus/Toyota only. Much easier and quicker if you have a helper. If you have not done this before you might want to take it to a shop. Make sure and bench bleed the master before installing it and run new fluid through the whole system as moisture will be an issue once you break the system open like that.
