I figured my 2000 w/ 220k on it was worth 4k give or take ........ when the transmission went the local transmission shop offered me $800.00. So I figured I would get the $1700.00 for the trans out of it if I changed my mind and sold it after the fix
But this is a car I have owned 11 years and needed nothing -- all new pads/rotors/ tires/fluids/battery at 200k --- not a dent on it. All the suspension stuff had been addressed at around 150k.

Replaced water pump, coolant flowing again, no overheating. Now to figure out transmission and steering issue. Now one thing I did notice is that the tires on the car are far too wide and tall, I think by 20/20. And they scrub, by replacing with OEM size would that fix some of the steering issue? It calls for 205/60/16 and has 225/75/16. I dumb a$$ owned it before for sure.

Well, whether it makes it better, fixes it or does nothing it has to be done. What's the wear pattern like on the tires? I'd replace them and have it aligned. If they want to replace stuff make sure you are there to look at what they are recommending.

Definitley going to OEM spec rims and tires will help make the alignment easier.
In a previous post you thought it was a tie rod issue, inspect them if they are bent then you found the major culprit.
I swapped my driver side due to a bent tie rod which made it impossible to align properly and when I thought I had it aligned prior to the swap, like you said it was like driving on ice especially on a curved on ramp, Scary shiznet.

What probably happened with the tires, is that the seller threw on a set of new ones to hide the terrible alignment that this car has. And they were probably so desperate, that they didn't care about the proper size, as long as it looked good. Good luck to you, and I hope you get it all working again.

I think if your buying into car with that many miles on it already AND at an auction setting, you already know to set aside some benjamins for upkeep. Good to hear you resolved the overheating though. AND I hope the car was really cheap. GL
