Yrs, checked the cap. Noticed an odor of gasoline smell some 25/20 minutes after filling up last night.

Read my first reply and get the codes.

Save some money and don't buy a new cap -- The evap system does fail on these cars -- it can be a hose .... one of the valves - or a cracked case. Don't throw parts at the problem

The canister is buried up by the gas tank -- it is difficult to get to it without a lift.

It does have a couple of valves -- I believe you can replace one and the other is part of the canister So one of the valves may have a problem. You end up getting more than one code with this failure -- so it looks worse than it is. I believe the canister is a bit over $200.00.

All to keep a vacuums in the gas tank

Um... just to be clear it's not about keeping vacuums in the tank. The system perodically pressurizes the fuel system and then checks for any pressure variance. If the pressure drops then it assumes a leak. If it cannot perform this test properly or it finds a pressure drop it turns the light on. The system is designed to make sure no fuel vapors escape into the atmosphere and that the vapors that are created are routed to a cannister and then purged into the engine at the proper time.

Hydrocarbons are part of what creates ozone and as such shouldn't be released into the atmosphere.

Thanks for posting the Trouble Codes list. Very helpful for me.

My 99 ES300 has 167k miles and want to get to where you are with 248k miles.

Can you tell me what code P1354 is, and "Enhanced DTC" (a code reading from Advanced Auto Parts-supposedly is a dealer code)?

Really appreciate it.

Thanks.
Hope this helps.
