I want to put in-dash navigation into a 2003 ES300. Right now it just has the radio/tape/cd changer.
It seems from what I've read, the 2004-2006 ES330 Nav unit would be easier to install because it's an all in one unit. I see them on ebay...
I don't suppose anyone knows of a writeup/instructions? I read something about a 'retrofit kit' but cannot find any info on it or where to possibly buy it. Is there anything I need besides the bigger dash trim piece (double-din) from Lexus?
I guess the other alternative is to install aftermarket unit which would still require that double din thing from Lexus, but my understanding is that won't work with the factory amp so that would require me to rewire my speakers. Is that right?
Any help would be appreciated.

I think its one of those 'easier said than done' deals.
I don't recall, but the NAV was Mark Levinson? If so there's the first problem.
Second is connections, yes same car, but changeover aka facelift years would have a good chance of changes in connections - so you may need a cut harness with the new unit
Packaging; how complete is the unit? Most Nav systems i've seen to date are multi component, with many things [big & small] needed to work in the car.

enigma, I think you will have a much easier time installing an aftermarket nav unit. The early 4ES's nav had a unit in the trunk. Not sure about the post-refresh 4ES's, but I'm guessing you could find (or fabricate) a harness for an aftermarket nav unit.
