02 ES300: cleaned the MAF- now poor idle, stalling

Typically there is no benefit ... leave your MAF alone unless something points to a problem. Read your codes -- follow your codes. These sensors have been around for a long time -- cars were dirtier years ago -- it was very common for an aging car to have what is known as blow by -- this is where you get back pressure through the intake. Even new cars bak in the 70/80 had the problem .... this would deposit dirt and oil into the intake ... possibly coating the sensor. I say possibly -- because .... cleaning these things has always been dubious. It sells a lot of cleaner. Leave them alone unless a code.
Don't replace the sensor w/o reading the codes -- also there are a lot of questionable sensors out there ... that's some of the price difference
To the new OP -- you may have just had some bad luck .... things happen. The battery and MAF have nothing to do with each other. Did you check the Alternator? The battery could have failed due to a weak alternator. Have the charging system checked and get the codes. Don't change the MAF until you are sure it's the problem.
