Default OEM part prices skyrocketed

I was planning to buy an OEM corner lamp housing for some time now, and I just noticed that the price went up significantly just this week. I'm guessing it's a New Year's thing. It used to be 80 something dollars, and now it's 101.

Now case and point, I bought a driver's side headlight for my car on July 22nd last year. (going off of a receipt). I paid $176.13 then, and now it's $200.18. That's an increase of almost 14%!

I thought it was just this one dealer that I always used, but I checked another website and it's about the same.

Salvage yards, or TYC.

A 'new' unit from TYC is 80ish all day long. Or used OEM for less than 60$ shipped if you look around... at that price too, i'd get the aftermarket clear corners, they don't fit 100% like oem but are in the 50$ range shipped on eBay.

Just like the 00-01 tails, used to be in excess of 700$ for a complete set used, now, less than 500$

This is a difficult car in general i must say. I've been looking for the OEM HID lights since i started driving the thing. It's not fair that the 05+ ES330 projectors can be had for 100$/side, yet this decade old model still expects to fetch over 300$/side. /rant

Does it have anything to do with Japan? Or is it all due to the poor economy? Or a combination of both? I heard it's getting harder and harder for Japanese auto makers to build their cars in Japan and still yield a profit.

None of the above, it;s just the yearly price increase. It was the same for the tires we sell as well, even some of those went up on the 1st as well.

On the other hand, there are actually some OEM things that are cheaper then the aftermarket. One thing I;ve seen is out Exhaust manifolds with a Cat can be a $100 cheaper then aftermarket. Thats just one of those rare things though.

One thing to remember, the Toyota dealer can often be cheaper then the Lexus dealer for the SAME part, such as oil and engine air filters, or engine parts. So for stuff like the ES350 which is very close to the Camry, try to get the parts at Toyota IF you know they are exactly the same (best way is if you can get the part #'s and bring to the dealer). We service Lexus vehicles at work, and they basically hand anything parts related to me for cross referencing, lol.
