Default Transmission Filter Change

Was gonna change the transmission filter on my 99ES, called the dealer and they said that is a serviceable item. All you need to do is take it out and clean it. Is that right?

Default not sure but

I think it is a screen with magnets and the metal debris sticks to the magnets and thus needs to be wiped off. You may want to consider complete transmission flush/fill at the same time. This should be done every 30-60k.

My dealer, which I do like, wanted $200+ tax to do it. I said no way.

I drained the pan, installed new filter/screen because they ARE cheap around $35 for the filter and pan seal. Drained diff and installed 3.85 qts of Amsoil ATF. It cost around $60 for the total items minus the few Corona's. It is really easy and I would not worry about the old fluid in the lines, etc. I believe there is no drain plug on the torque converter so that is out. I personally think that the flush deal works but most times you do not need it (plus cost to much). Nothing will ever happen if you just drain fluid and install new fluid with filter.

I would only do the flush once if I were going to keep the car over to, lets says 200,000 miles.
