Probably a mistake. I bill out oil changes and hand out oil all day long at work (Toyota Dealer parts dept), and once in a while we do bill out the wrong amount by mistake.

Also, some cars require say, 5.2Q of oil, so we have to bill out 6Q for that particular car.

What happens to the 0.8 qt? Does it still go to the guy that paid $6.00/qt?

It depends. Every dealer I;m SURE will be different.

Personally, for my dealer, the normal dino oil is despensed from a 55 gallon drum, so there is nothing left over. For Synthetic, we use 1Q bottles, so theoretically, in that case, the mechanics still have the rest.

It also comes down to Toyota's billing setup for parts. You can't bill out a portion of something. You have to do it as a whole. You have to bill out 1Q as you can't bill out .2Q on the system. If your car indeed does take 5Q (according to Toyota and owners manual) and you got billed 6, next time you see it (IF it happenes), mention it to them. Like I said, I have personally billed out the wrong mount of oil many times. It;s utter hell to remember which engine is which, and even the same engine in different vehicles take a different amount, haha.

An ES300 should only take 5 qts of oil including the filter.

The best way to find out is ask the dealer you paid to do the oil change why they charged you for 6 quarts of oil and what happened to the remaining oil, if any.
