It seems to be very complicated with this car. I usually try to stay with OEM transmission fluids because they do a great job while not costing too much, but unfortunately, the current OEM transmission fluid is not compatible with our cars.

For example, the OEM Toyota ATF is Type T-IV, but my car needs Dexron III.

Most people use Mobil 1 Synthetic, Redline or some other aftermaket brand.

Oh and I don't even know what car you have....

speaking of which i bought a Mobil1 http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/..._ATF_3309.aspx Type - IV 4Liters. I also spoke to lexus dealer and they said that other brand names are fine too. Will do a drain n fill method hopefully next week along with an Castrol GTX oil change.

Since we are on the subject of tranmission fluids. Can someone give me a definitive answer on which one I need? I also want to replace my tranny fluid. I can even give you my transmission number.

p.s.: It would be really helpful if we had a reference table for all years of the ES and what ATF is compatible with each year. Then if we had it as a sticky, we could just redirect everyone to one place.

Use the Toyota T-4 only if that is what the manual calls for.

It doesn't cost that much and is designed for your tranny.

Dexron III is the correct ATF specification for your vehicle.

I am pretty sure your manual calls for Toyota Type T-4. If so, you can get it online if need be.

Put another way, if it were me, I would ONLY put in the car what the manual calls for.

I've heard good things about Toyota OEM (obviously), Redline, and Mobil 1. Maybe even Royal Purple.
