Default Couple of codes, Drivability issues

...hoping someone can help point me in the right direction. 2000 ES 300, DTC's p0171 sys too lean B1 and the dreaded p0768 shift sol "D". The engine stumbles a bit on acceleration intermittently. The trans won't shift into overdrive and now is having difficulty shifting into 3rd.

I realize these are likely unrelated. I'm obviously more concerned with the tranny issue at this point. After performing a search, I've come up with sol/harness replacement, ECM or Tranny assy.

A PDF of the service manual would be wonderful for trouble shooting but I haven't had any luck there either. I have access to AllData, but sometimes you just can't beat a factory manual.

Any advice? Thanks.

Ok, so I have located a "factory" service manual PDF that states it is for '96 - '01. The information seems solid, but I cannot seem to find the p0768 listed. The annotation at the bottom of each page indicates the manual was printed for a '97. Are the '97 and '00 not the same? Maybe I'm missing something.

Anyway, still looking for help with these issues if anyone is willing to lend a hand. Thanks.

Take it to the dealership for diagnosis? It will save you time and potential parts you might throw at it.

P0171 - check for vacuum leaks, epsecially the intake gasket they leak and last would be the A/F ratio sensor bad.

Thanks for the replies. I decided to tackle the p0768 first. Fluid is good, level is ok and no metal/foreign material was found. I pulled some info from AllData and performed several continuity tests. It looks like I've got a faulty ECM as harness/solenoid integrity seem within specs so I sent the unit out for diagnosis/repair. Turn around time on ECM's is usually about 8 days so hopefully I'll have it back next week and be back on the road.

Update for those that pull this on a search- ECM was indeed faulty. Internal failure caused the shift solenoid to not operate. Re manufacturer provided detailed list of circuits to check on vehicle before installing repaired unit to avoid any damage. Transmission now shifts fine and code is gone. Case closed.
