the noise sounds like the LARGE belt that the a/c clutch will engage onto when it does.
what belt is this?

Sorry I should be more specific.
It makes the sound if the A/C compressor is on or off. I was just saying the belt I hear making the ones is the one that DRIVES the a/c comp and is a long belt. Not that it makes the sound when using A/C
I am guessing I need a new drive (serpertine) belt. Is that about right?

Inspect the belt for wear and check the tension. I'm guessing here, but I think if it was the belt, then you would be able to see abnormal wear.
I noticed a similar noise on my car a few days ago. Today, I noticed that the noise intensifies when I turn off my lights, and quiets down when I turn them on. I think it's a a bad pulley, but I don't know which one.
