i lied, ok here we go. anyone try either taking out the bulbs for the DRLs? or taking them out, shaking them to break the filament, then putting them back in so they wont light up but they will still be there...

Toyota actually had a TSB about disabling the DRL on the Camry and Solara, starting in '99. You'll have to locate the DRL relay and push out a (ground) pin on the harness with a special tool. Then the DRL will be disabled, yet keep the automatic headlights turn-on function.

I see this topic a lot on when browsing the GS forum. I believe, like Luc mentioned, that it involves doing something to a DRL relay. Not sure if the GS procedure will work on an ES. I believe the ES uses the high beam bulb at reduced power for DRL, not a wedge bulb, so breaking or pulling the bulb is not a viable option.

Luk you got any more detail about where the relay is located, which pin to remove, or how to remove it? Thanks~
I don't really like DRL because i like to hit 120mph all the time at nite... and DRL just isn't going to help me if cops can see me from a distance... i want to keep my car invisible at nite... or at least harder to see for the cops...

Talk to your dealer if you can't find an answer on CL. The dealership instructed my neighbor on how to remove the DRL feature from his 02 ES.

Yo, don't be crusin' at night without lights, the cops aren't that stupid, they can see the car from reflections of the head/corner/tail- lights. Drive by a street with cars parallel parked. Turn off your lights and look at the parked cars. I guarantee you will be able to see 'some' reflections from mirrors, lights, glass, etc..... Your also putting others in danger.

A lotta my friends think their 'incognito hotshots' when they do that, but after one of them couldn't see a massive pothole, he hit it, spun out and wrecked the front end of his 99 M3 convertible.

And, if you do get pulled while having no lights on at 120 mph, your gonna get hit hard.

I have the manual-on-CD from Mitchell, and on the Canadian '98 ES, there are DRL main relay and DRL relays 2, 3, and 4. In comparing the diagrams on the Camry DRL relay, there is a red wire on pin 3 on DRL 2 relay on the ES which feeds to the main relay behind the center of dash that could be the one, which has 8 wires, and the 9th pin on the main relay, which is the same red wire. However, I can't verify that. Isn't disconnecting DRL on a Canadian car illegal?
