98 windom repairs (big or small)
SO I HAD MY CAR INSPECTED TODAY. MY FRIEND AT FIRESTONE SAID I HAVE TO REPLACE, SERVICE OR FIX THE FOLLOWING:
1. BRAKE FLUID FLUSH NEEDED (200 COPPER PARTS/MILLION)
2. ALT, AC, AND PS BELTS NEED TO BE CHANGED
so one of my questions are is a "serpentine belt" another name for the ac and alternator belt or is that a totally different belt??
ive tried googling the alternator and ac belt seperate and the only thing that comes up is talk about the serpentine belt??
are these considered big/ or costly jobs to replace the above belts?
3. BATTERY ED 18 TEST: MARGINAL
ok to be totally honest i have no F N idea wth this means LOL. please explain.
4. RACK & PINION ASSEMBLY LEAK
big or small job? costly?
5. DOG BONE MOUNT BROKEN
6. FRONT SEAL LEAK
big or small job? costly?

- Brake fluid flush you can do yourself, much easier if you have a helper
- Your car does not have a serpentine belt, it has an A/C belt and a power steering belt. This can be done at home provided you have access to some good jackstands
- The battery, if it's going just replace it
- Rack & Pinion leak is very costly to replace, hope it is leaking somewhere else besides the actual rack. I'd say this is likely.
- Dog bone mount you can replace yourself it is a simple repair
- Front seal leak, major repair it requires the timing belt to be removed.
How many miles on your car? It would be a good idea to get a 2nd opinion, some of those "problems" sound suspicious.

First, I second the second opinion.......
Sorry but in my opinion it ALL sounds like BS...... Taking your car to Firestone for a mechanical check up/work is a recipe for disaster..... Look for a good neighborhood mechanic that works on Toyotas. Not the dealer.... Ask friends and relatives for referals......
Finally, don't be scared to do some of the easy work yourself. Look it up here or on the net and learn.....

hahahahahah love the comment. the only reason i took it to firestone is because my friend works there and he used to be a mechanic at toyota city. n the mechanic i used to take my cars to is on a long vacation. the car is salvaged and considering the symptoms i could bleav what firestone said. but i do want a second opinion anyways. i havent had any luck with finding mechanics specifically specialized in toys. after all the BS i just posted above n changing oil at firestone my check engine light is on. uggghhhh im just annoyed. n yeah i guess i can change the belts myself. but for everything else F that lol.
