Wheel size effect on ride?
I know I'm a little ahead of the spring/summer season, but am thinking about getting larger than stock rims and tires soon. However, I LOVE the luxurious ride of my stocks. Can anyone who's upgraded tell me how much firmer the ride becomes, in order to gain the handling of lower profile tires!? Also, what's the best size you'd recommend for a '97-plus ES?

I know this is a pretty old post, but I was searching around for answers to the same questions. I was also wondering if anyone has pictures of an es300 with 17's or 18's not lowered. I really want some 18 inch rims, but I'm not sure I want to mess with the suspension since it's my daily driver and it rides really nicely. But I also know that it won't look good with 18's and stock suspension. So I wondered what 17's looked like on stock suspension. I've got a '95 and any help would be appreciated.

Even 17's will look real funny on stock suspension, IMHO. I test-fit my 18's before I lowered the car, I wouldn't be caught dead driving it with that kinda fender gap, 17's won't really look any better. I think there are a few pics around of people who've put wheels on ES's without lowering, look around the gallery or Sounddomain member pages, you can pick out the ones that aren't lowered.

The ride is significantly firmer now, I don't know how to describe or compare it; but I really don't mind much. You'll notice the bumps more on real bad roads, that can get a little bothersome; but I usually just try to avoid roads I know are real bad. Overall, I like the way it drives now alot better than before, it feels alot more stable and secure on the road and the ride generally isn't too bad IMO.
On a side note, it's pretty crazy that I've still got the 18's on the car in January in Minnesota, we'd usually be buried in snow by now. I'm not complaining, this winter's been pretty mild so far.

Also, anyone else have pictures of non-lowered upgraded wheel packages? Just wonder how that would look.

The larger the rim, the thinner (height wise) the sidewall. Thinner sidewall equates to a harsher ride.
