Default Selling es 99 es300

I'm finally close to sellin my 99 es300, I posted awhile ago that I was considering sellin it. I have been going back and forth with a local mechanic shop on the final price. The car has a few problems including catalytic converter (check engine light), also the brake light goes on and off, and right side strudders need replacing. He offered me 2800$ for the car, i was wondering is that a fair deal. I kbb it and came around 4500 and I selected fair, even more for good. Just trying to get the most outta my old lady.

How many miles are on it? Do you mean struts (suspension) when you say "strudders"?

That's a thread I posted earlier, tried the eBay and Craigslist route but really didn't get any responses. Has pics of car. I'm trying to get the car off my hands as fast as possible. Jus not really comfortable about that 2800 offer.

The brake light could indicate a bad brake light bulb or low brake fluid.

I just paid $2800 for my 99 ES with 156,000 miles. I put in 2 knock sensors, and 2 rear struts. I would say it's hard to sell a car when you have a few things that need fixing. However when everything is fixed I think it's worth closer to $4k or more depending on tires and overall condition.

It's a low offer because he's only buying to resell it and make money off of it.
It doesn't sound like anything is really wrong "wrong" with the car, it just needs a few maintenance items. It's about the same price you'd get if you traded it in at a car lot.

If you need to sell it quick, why not drop the price and try again on Craigs List? You'd still do a lot better than $2,800.

I've know people that will take incredibly low offers for their cars when they go to buy a car at a dealership because they don't want the hassle of selling a car. I get that it's not the most fun experience, but isn't a few hours of your time worth a few extra thousand dollars in your pocket?

I remember "adding up" my time when I sold a car and it came out to being paid around a thousand dollars an hour versus what a dealership would give me.

This. When the fixes are stuff like this, you're talking about some easy money, thats why the mechanic is willing to take it off your hands, and don't be upset w/him, he's just trying to make it worth his time. On a side note, why do you want to sell it when it only have 110K? IMO I just could not let one of these go for 3-4K since they are worth more than than when you figure how reliable of transportation they provide, heck that is the ballpark price range of a late 90's early 2000's civic, and aside from a 5-7mpg difference in the civic, the ES is better in nearly every other way. Bottom line is that what could you get that would be a better car? These still look modern enough that people think that it is a nice car too. I do understand if you just want to get something else because you want to (new body style, experience something else, etc), but if we're talking about getting from A to B with a little bit of class, then I don't think these can be beat (I haven't done really anything to my ES's and have put about 80K miles on them since I got them about a year and a half a go, and I'm getting around 26-28mpg in both of mine in combined driving btw)

Best of luck either way, bottom-line is if you do try to fix these things yourself, make sure you don't end up spending more money than what you could get out of the car (i.e. don't spend more than what you could get private party minus the 2800 you could dump it off for now)
