Default Car would not start this morning

When my son tried to start the car this morning it would not start. The starter would turn fine but would not start. The only way I could get it started was to pump the gas pedal constantly while turning the key. Once started it would stall so I kept my foot on the gas while it was idling. After about a minute with my foot on the gas I let up and the car idled on its own. I shut the car off then started it again and it started normal. I had to go to work so I couldn't play with it more. I will have my wife try to start it again when the engine is cold and see if it does it again. No check engine light. I will check for pending codes tonight. Where should I start ? Maybe Idle Air Control Valve ? The car has been running fine, no sign of any rough starts or anything and now this.

Thanks

53 views and no replies Anyway after searching around I did the procedure from this thread https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-write-up.html . After removing the 2 phillip head screws, the **** did not turn too freely. After spraying some carb cleaner in the hole I felt a difference when I turned it. Put it all back together and so far so good. Tomorrow morning I'll know for sure. Also, there was no pending codes.

probably just flooded the engine somehow, did you leave the key in ignition for any length of time before starting it. i know i left my on when i was testing my stereo for a while and when i went to start it it took a minute be fore it turned over.

Modern EFI cars should not release any fuel until the car cranks over. It is possible if the Fuel Pressure was extremely high "for some reason " then yes flooding could have occurred.

Turning the key to the "On" position should not have caused it. The ECU will tell the Fuel pump to prime for a small length of time to prime the system and then shut off until the car is actually running.

your absolutely right the old bmw 850's use to do that. but for some strange reason with my IS it did it to me twice, once when i was trouble shooting a blown fuse, had the ignition on for about 45 minutes, had to crank it a few times before it turned over, and once when i was doing my system. i only owned the car a few months and thought that kind of weird

I thing the old 850's had a cold start valve like the Datsun's EFI, bosch systems. My 78 does that where it dumps a bunch of fuel in when turned to the on position.
