Default creaking noise when applying the brake

Hi,

I have a 99 Lexus ES300 and just noticed today that when I apply the brake I hear a creaking noise coming from the front of the car.

It only happens when I apply the brake.

I also tried it when I started the car and it wasn't happening (no noise) and then after driving for 15 mins. it started occuring.

Any idea what that could be and is it serious?

Thanks!

It could be a bunch of things. Best way to check is to disassemble the brakes and see if anything needs lubrication.

lubrication? other than the sliders pins i don't see where else u can solve a problem like this with lubrication.
but from the sounds of it, it probably has nothing to do with the sliders.
if noise is coming from when u apply the brakes, it could only be pads getting worn. once the rotor/pads warm up u'd get noise.
go check your pads, if it's worn, get them changed. simple

It's not just the slider pins. You also have to think about the brake pad shims and the little metal springs that hold the pads in place. If there is too much movement, you will get that creaking noise.

Hi All,

I checked the brakes and the pads are good with a lot of life left on them. I also checked the brake fluid and that is at max. The noise is only coming from the front driver side.

Your shims might be making that noise. When you apply the brakes, the pads could be moving around ever so slightly to make the noise. The shims are there to suppress that noise and to keep the pads from moving.

i've never heard about lubricating shims....

lot of life left doesn't mean it's going to be quiet. go get a mechanic to inspect it or just change the pads yourself.

You've never put Anti-Squeal between the pad and the shim?

Some people also like to put it on the pad support plates, I personally don't.

i took the car for another spin today and it felt like the temperature of the brake area is hotter than the passenger side's brake area. i'm not sure but i suspect maybe the caliper maybe dying on me. i did bring the lubricant so lets see how that works first.

loool when is anti squeal "lube" now? and most pads nowadays are sold with shim attached...so no, u dont "lube" the brakes.

another note, if OP already knows thta one caliper is hotter than the other, its for sure just a seized caliper, get a replacement rebuilt caliper
