Default When Should This Be Changed??????

Hey Everyone,

I have a 2002 Lexus ES300. I was wondering when would be a good time to change the water pump and timing belt? I'm currently at 119 km....will be at 120 000 soon. If anyone has any advice please reply....

Thanks,

Brwnsknthg

If it has never been changed, you are overdue! If I remember correctly it should be changed at 60K miles (about 100K km).

Welcome to Club Lexus!

As per the service maintenance schedule, the timing belt should be changed at 90k miles or I believe is equal to about 140k km.

So you still have some time.

But you are outside of the time limit of 72 months (6 years). Bottom line is that you are about due. Start planning on which kidney you want to sell. lol

The official Lexus Maintenance schedule is every 90,000 miles or 72 months. 90K miles ~= 145K km.

The mileage is really just a suggestion. The condition of the timing belt will depend on age, driving style, and its surroundings. If you have an oil leak, it could possibly contaminate the belt, which will speed up the breakdown of the rubber. If you do a lot of stop-and-go and/or aggressive driving, the teeth will get worn out faster.

Anywhere from 80 - 100,000 miles (130-160,000km) is a good time to do it.
