Default Small Front Speakers

I have a 1992 Lexus ES300 and I noticed two fairly small speakers up by my windshield. I have no clue what size they are. If anyone knows that would be amazing. Thanks!

Are you talking about the tiny ones in the top of the door? If I'm not mistaken, those are 1" tweeters. This was back in the days before they had speaker combos, when the tweeters were separate from the other components.

nono, i think he's talking about the speakers on the dash against the windshield and a-pillar.
those are 3" speakers. the tweeters on the door are 1" tweeters.

Ah, I think he is. In that case, you're right.

Also, @AlphaOnion, there is a significant difference in how your ear hears music when you've got your 1" and 3"ers up on the dash with the 6.5" down below vs. only using 6.5" door speakers with the 3" and 1" attached down below.
Of course, having all of it together, up top and below sounds glorious. But what I'm saying is that, Yes, 3way door speakers are the way to go, but also add in some high quality 3" and 1"ers up front makes your system sound fantastic.

Speaking from experience of course.
I've got the stock 3" and 1"era up on the dash, Kenwood 3way 6.5"s in the doors, Kenwood 5way 6x9s in the rear, Fusion 10" woofer in a ported box in the trunk, speakers powered by a 600watt amp and woofer by a 300watt and a simple Clarion CZ501 headunit up front.

They are screamers, they are obsolete now. Just leave them alone. Unless you want EXTRA highs, put some tweeters in there.

Yeah I just got some Pioneer 3-ways for the doors and some Boss Audio 4-ways for the rear. I plan on replacing the subwoofer, 1" and 3" speakers in the future. I have one question though: Is an amplifier actually required, or can I just replace all my factory speakers with better ones?

ACTUALLY.......coaxial speakers are subpar to components especially for door speakers. There should be one woofer and one tweeter ran through some crossover or bass blocker where the OEM tweeter was (perfect position almost). ALL speakers are only going to sound as clean as the signal it is recieving. The stock speakers only have 15-20 W (not even including RMS). If you are getting new speakers, invest in an amp. Even the amp in the aftermarket HeadUnit only gives out about 22w RMS. Don't cut your system short. Do it properly.

^^Ditto that.

Again from experience:
I upgraded my system step by step. Originally I simply replaced the speakers with Kenwoods and ran then off of my Clarion head unit (4x50watt), I ran that system for 6 months and thought it sounded good.
And then just last week I added the sub and two amps, one dedicated for the sub (300watts) and one dedicated for the speakers (600watts). The difference in sound quality and the amount of crisp clear highs, lows and the bass hitting like a bamf is unbelievable.

Do it right and invest.
I'm thinking of posting a step by step for 1995 ES300 owners.

yea subs are definitely the icing on the cake. Just got a 270 amp alternator to support my 2 L7s I'm Putting in this summer. I have to build the custom box for it. STAY TUNED.

DO IT MAN! It's super fun and totally worth the effort and uhm... MUCH cheaper than performancy stuff.
