Is that good enough clearance for fluid change? Or should I buy the jack? (I might still buy jack stands for the additional support for ramp). Thoughts?
I never have to jack up my 97 ES300 to do oil change and transmission fluid change. I just lay on the ground and reach in.

I would also use jack stands as some sort of backup if you buy the ramps. You'll need them eventually anyway.

Did you mean to say that you can get under the car without jacking up the car or just lay down on the floor and reach the drain plug without actually sliding under the car? I am new DIYer, I looked at the drain plug and don't think I can drain the fluid without getting under the car.

It's possible to reach in without raising the car, but I do it anyway for convenience. The biggest issue with clearance is being able to fit your drain pan.

Go with ramps if you're not planning to remove your wheels - suspension and tire rotations.

One bonus for raising a car on four jack stands is that it keeps it level with the ground.

Thanks folks. I just bought the ramps. Didnt change the fluid yet but tried to see if ramps would raise the car high enough for the job. It does. Just waiting for the ATF fluid from eBay. Will probably do it on Friday/Saturday. I am super excited.

Yes, I can reach the drain plug (oil and transmission) without jacking the vehicle. I have done it on many many vehicles. I lay down on the floor and reach in. Only my shoulder and head are partly under the vehicle. And this is me on a creeper.

The oil pan fits underneath the drain plug no problem.

Just be careful not to over run the ramp....I have witnessed my neighbor doing it. The father was outside the car instructing the daughter to slowly drive up the ramp. She gave a little too much gas....

Even with my MR2 with lowered springs, I can still fit my oil pan under the drain plug.

Yes, its bit difficult and takes a while. But I managed to get the car on the ramps ok, all by myself. So I guess, I am good to go.

ES330MD05, you should really start your own thread. Seeing this thread pop up is really misleading. I keep thinking that the OP has something new to say.
