That's correct. I took my time. Labeled everything. The problem is some parts are near impossible to remove and replace or move out of the way. For instance, the wiring harness and the one bolt I mentioned earlier. I am getting quicker but I've only done it twice, that's how long it takes me.

Default cracked head

Following numerous great posts here I got the RH (rear) cylinder head off my 98 Lexus ES300 1mz-fe. Both valve cover gaskets are leaking, the rear much more so than front.

The drivers side short edge of the cylinder head has a few small cracks, at least that's what they look like. I'm torn, i certainly don't want to pay market price for a new head - can't afford that. I'm struggling with the choice between just rolling with it as it is (new gasket of course) and getting a used head.

Any experience with used cylinder heads? Other thoughts?

Those are not cracks. They are like half-circle caps.
You need to take those out, clean them, reapply sealants, etc...

Please download a shop manual so you know what to do.

Ah I see that now... listed as "semi -Circular Plug". i have the PDF shop manual version, using the Engine_Mechanical section.

Thanks for the quick response.

Good luck. Just make sure you follow the shop manual on where to apply the sealants.
And don't over torque the valve cover bolts....they will snap on you if you do....

Get a razor blade to scrape off the old sealant, then use some brake clean on a rag to wipe the surface clean. Good luck.
