Isn't the fan run off hydrolics from power steering pump? Don't think you can make it spin faster. I had exact symptoms you have on a 92 and it was a head gasket.

except that you can. Over by the Rack theres a small connector for the Progressive power steering. Unplug it and your steering gets hard (i happen to like it this firm) but your fan speed also speeds up. This fan can hum at full speed.

I had to return it. Still looking. I dont know if someone changed the radiator to something different and now the cap with my VIN does not match? It's a mystery.

akab, do you have an OEM p/n for the radiator cap?
Here are the part numbers -

Radiator Cap 16401-62100
Radiator Cap COVER 16545-62011 this is a plastic cap that clips over top the radiator cap
Inlet Cap 16401-62090

If the radiator cap does not fit, then the radiator is not the same as OEM. You can set the hydraulic fan to run at high speed by using a jumper (see image). Failure points are the hydraulic solenoid on the power steering pump (also the connector), clogged filter, bad ECU, bad hydraulic fan (very unlikely for the last two).

Thanks Lexus2000. You are quite right about the radiator. Some additional checking under the hood revealed that the radiator is a "Radicon" brand (made in Taiwan) so the original was changed by a previous owner. The inlet cap actually fits this radiator. So, mystery solved. I got a second-class radiator. Happy days. ;-)

Put an OEM inlet cap on the radiator, then bleed the cooling system with a spill free funnel. But before you go there, install the jumper to make sure the fan system is working correctly. If it spins at high speed, it probably is.

....wait scratch that, the inlet cap has two check valves that will not work properly. Best to bite the bullet and replace the rad. But do the jumper thing first!
