Seat upgrade? (2-GS or 1-IS)
Curious if the seats from the 2-GS or 1-IS are electrical compatible with the '01 ES? Would this be a direct bolt in as far as frame or will he have to adapt it? A buddy is looking for a better bolstered seat to put in and is looking for some options.

I don't find the 2GS seats bolstered at all when compared to the ES seats.
I've had sets of these when i was parting GS's out. The connections seemed different from the 2GS -> 3ES from what i recall. That and the 2GS seats seem to be 'fatter' where the ES seats have a thin side profile. So fitment & clearance between the armrest and doors would be hard to judge.
1IS seats are a different story, since they are in a smaller car.

Thanks. Maybe one of those try it and see situations.
Compared to the seats in my 2-LS, the 2-GS seems "sportier". I haven't been in an early gen ES in a long time so I don't have much recollection of space and seat feel. Do you think at a basic level the color options are reasonably compatible between some of the other model Lexus cars?

Not sure if this helps, but i have seen a 2nd gen. es300 with seats from an is250. When the i asked the guy he said the seats still retained all electronic functions and said "didn't take much to get them to fit". I am not sure if the 2nd gen. and 3rd gen. es's had similar seat set ups.

That's interesting.
On another take, do you think the original seats would be worthwhile to be re-uphostered for better bolstering? I don't know if the relative cost for an upholstery build over replacing the seats may be more efficient use of $.
