A few questions about knock sensor and rough idle
Hey guys,
Although these topics are unrelated I am having an issue firstly with my idle sitting a little bit too high. So on most days, and by most I would say about 95% of the time when I am in idle, the car sits around 1000-1100 rpm. However, under some instances for some reason I will slow down and come to a stop and watch the needle sit at 1k rpm and then settle down to the 750-800 range (where I suspect is the normal idle). When it sits around 1k rpm I get a bit of a rough idle.
So I'm thinking the first place to check for is vaccuum leaks and if I find nothing, move on to the IAC valve? I will more than likely take it apart, clean it up, replace the gasket and put it back in the car. I was also told there's a screw on it that allows you to adjust the idle???
I did some digging and searched online before posting (I know, isn't it an amazing thing??? lol)..anyways what I found is a lot of people saying there's a small valve inside that sometimes becomes stuck from even small amounts of carbon. Being that my idle issue is inconsistent, I am thinking that this may be the cause of my problem and cleaning it with some seafoam and proper tools will fix it..am I on the right track here??
Now for the knock sensors. I just ordered (2) knock sensors off ebay. I am doing the relocation mod but for the price I paid, I figured seeing as the 94 1MZ had the most sensitive knock sensors, why not keep extras as spares lol. I found a guy on ebay who had two brand spanking new OEM toyota KS (89615-12040). I paid 59 USD for both of them shipped to me in Canada..I know, I practically stole them!!! lol
Anyways at the same time, I am also gonna order the new coolant hose the covers the knock sensor under the intake plenum (part number ends in 20010) and also buy the hose clamps to replace as well as some 20 gauge wire.
I am a little confused about the ground wires and things. I read the DIY for it on tnation made by Eye8Pussies but I was confused about when he said you have to splice but to be careful of the ground wire? Can someone clarify?
I will be using a 1/4 inch NPT to tap the bracket for the dogbone motor mount right next to the timing belt cover.
When I put it all back together, obviously I will need to re-bleed the coolant. For guys who have done the relocation mod, how much coolant do you need? about 1-1.5 gallons?
Any more info would be awesome.
Thanks guys.
