You've never owned/maintained a Vdub, have you? I am mildly relieved that I won't have to face the onslaught of repairs as the Passat aged. Interference engine & a PITA timing belt R&R every 70k. High-strung turbo engine that's prone to turning its oil into sludge and self-destructing. Electrical gremlins out the wazoo. Suffice to say-- the VW forums are MUCH more active w/ DIY repairs than the Lexus forms.

I think I'm comfortable w/ the RWD. I made it through several winters with a 1970 Firebird with all-season tires. Yes, it took a lot more attentiveness than FWD, but that's not all bad!

...Got me thinking now...!!

Hmmm... Another newbie question: ES300 vs 330? Much less "Toyota" appearance. Is the 330 a big improvement, or just BNG (bold new graphics)?
Depends what ES300 year you are talking about?
The 4ES body style started in 2002 - 2003, which is still labeled as ES300. It's the same body style as the 2004- 2006 (ES330), the major difference is really just the engine which is a 3.3L in the 330 and a 3.0L in the 300.
