Default Looking at an 99 ES300... what to look for?

A friend of mines inlaws are selling their 1999 ES300. It has 167K miles on it. I need a good reliable car. Is there anything i should be looking for when i go look at the car? Any major problems with these cars?

Thanks!

^Timing belt, suspension mainly struts, strut mounts, sway bar endlinks and sway bar bushings. Look for minor oil leaks, and if the oil has been changed (sludge) Also the lcd screen on the radio tends to go out, but not a huge isssue. All in all very good cars, mine has 205k miles

I agree with all of gray's suggestions. Look for signs of care and maintenance - quality of tires/brakes/fluids/belts. The state of the exterior and interior cleanliness are also huge indicators.

At the specified mileage, you're looking at leaky valve covers, dry suspension bushings, and a dirty air intake (MAF sensor/IAC Valve). Lastly, make sure the instrument cluster is completely lit up, with no missing lights. (same for the radio/climate control).

this should be a sticky..with both of these plus the help Mr Booby gave me when i was looking for my es300 a year or so ago, it would be the perfect guide for what to look for in a 97-2001 es300!!

sludge is a serious issue, one should make sure all oil change records are there and there is no sludge build up.
