Default what does VSV do? (broke mine)

It is called the vacuum switch solenoid. It is for acoustic induction system. Toyota part # 25860-62010.

so what does this brittle, easy-to-shatter part actually do? I ran without it, and just swapped a different one back in place. Can't say I notice a difference. what is it supposed to do?

here is a link to a picture of one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ES300-RX300-...4f892c&vxp=mtr

thanks

Look at the part and think out the description. Vacuum Switch. It's a switch used to control vacuum. In the ebay desc, it appears it can be connected to control the vacuum needed to open and close the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). Engine eating it's own poop!

The part has two hose connections. One to be connected to a constant vacuum and when the switch is thrown it opens and the vacuum flows to the desired part or location.

I didn't realize it opened the EGR. I realize the EGR is designed to recirculate exhaust gas and minimize emissions. Just didn't realize this valve played a role in that process.

I did google EGR and got millions of hits explaining how to change egr, offers to sell me parts, but nothing explaining the role of this valve.

what I'm trying to figure out is if it is that crucial to my vehicle operation that I even need to worry about it.

Sorry, I edited my original explination with more info. I only said EGR as that's what the ebay desc stated. It may not control EGR. You'll need to trace where the hoses go and see what part it actually goes to.

If it does control the EGR it probably won't have to much performance impact. But it may cause you to fail smog if you have that.

On my 01 I don't have an EGR. But i think on the earlier models like yours do.

Are you getting CEL at all?
