Hi everyone, new to the forums. I have a question for you guys that I hope you can help me with. About a month ago I had to get my car smogged to complete my car registration and get my tags. My car was good but I failed because my cars check engine light is on. I got the error code p1150 which I found out on here is the a/f sensor on bank 2 sensor 1. I bought the sensor and swapped it out and disconnected the positive cable on my battery for about 15-20 minutes immediately after. I was hoping this would clear the light but it didn't. I even had my neighbor who is a mechanic try to clear the light with the handheld OBD reader with no luck. My question to you guys is what do you think is causing that error code to keep popping up and do you have any suggestions as to how I can clear it? I've heard of pulling the ECU fuse to rest the ECU and clear the lights but haven't been able to find which exact fuse to pull. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And my is a 2002 ES300.

Even though the code indicated a sensor issue the problem could be elsewhere. For example you could have a wiring problem or a voltage problem.
Attached Below are possible causes for your P1150 code.
It's always risky to replace a component without doing specific diagnosis. Your original sensor could still be good.
How many miles/km on your car?

does the light go out and then come back on or does the light never go out. also i believe the ecu fuse should be under the hood and labeled on the cover of the fuse block. it will say ecu

Hi guys! First of all I'd like to thank you all for your responses, they're greatly appreciated! I replaced the engine about a year ago due to a thrown rod. The previous owner didn't maintain the car as well as I thought they had. To make a long story short I had a new engine put in but the mechanics told me they have worked on my car and dropped engines into with no problems. Come to find out I was lied to and never went back because they kept trying to squeeze money from me. CEL has been on since.
Hypervish: I tried to clear the light with the code reader and it disappeared for a moment and came back on. I actually used a Bosch sensor, could that be a problem? and thank you for the welcome!
PFB: My car has a little over 100,000 miles on it. I'm starting to think maybe it is a wiring or voltage problem myself since swapping the part didn't clear the CEL.
Joegreen: The CEL never goes it, its always been on. I tried to look for the fuse but none are labeled ecu, theres one named ecu-b but in the manual its seems its only for accessories. I could be wrong though.

did you say your actual emissions are fine, but since the CEL is on, you get automatically failed? what if you remove cluster and remove CEL bulb, then get smog test done? sounds stupid, but if it gets you the end result...

Get that Bosch sensor out of there... These car's do not play well with aftermarket sensors. Stick a Denso sensor in there. Get the sensor from Amazon, it will be the cheapest there. I recall it being $100.

I actually still have the denso sensor i took out, does anyone know what the resistance values should be so I can see if the sensor is still good?
Thanks for the replies too guys! Much appreciated!

The resistance values for the 02 sensor in the RX300 & ES300 can be found here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/4929021-post2.html
I do not know if they are the same for 2002. As that screenshot look's like it was from a repair manual, and in 2002 a lot of things changed on the ES.

I'm not certain my clever trick would work on your's. When we get smog tested, they plug in the OBDII reader and don't even bother hooking up the hoses to determine your actual emissions. On older vehicles that don't have OBDII, like my 93 ES300, they hook up hoses and check actual emissions. I just got passed with this test procedure, and my CEL was on!! My CEL is for knock sensor , which basically adjusts timing for knocking & pinging.
But on OBDII, usually CEL on = sure failure since they can plug in and find out.

i would go in this order:
1. A/F sensor (since you got this code first)
2. Oxygen sensor
3. Catalytic converter.
Our sensors are rated for 100,000miles anyway. If you are well above that its not a bad time to replace them anyway.

Your profile says Japn, but the smog report says California. Is your car a California car? If so, is your new A/F sensor designed for a Californa emission car? It does make a difference.

Hey everyone, I know this is months later but I just wanted to give everyone an update. The problem turned out to be electrical and it stemmed from when I had my engine replaced. When I had the mechanic run a test on my car I only had one of the bank one and two sensors show up, so basically only one of the 4 sensors was showing up. The mechanic reset my computer and all of them showed up and the CEL cleared. After driving the car for about 20 miles the CEL came back on and the error code p0136 showed up. I had the bank 1 sensor 2 replaced and my CEL is finally off. Thanks for the help and I hope this post helps someone who may have a similar problem.
