Default Need new tires

Hey guys, I have been out of the loop for a while with the car industry while in school. However I do need new tires for my 02 ES300. I really want Michelin's. What is currently the best tire out to buy. I currently have the stock wheels on it.

I picked up a set of Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring (V- Speed Rating) for $493 after rebate. They replaced my barely worn but extremely loud Bridgestone Potenza G019's which had terrible snow traction. The new Goodyear's are fantastic, they took very little weight to balance and are very quiet on the road. They absorb the bumps, and ride very nice. It's the perfect tire for a Lexus!

Take a look on tirerack, there is a lot of useful information on there.

They aren't available with a V speed rating, which is what the ES requires.

Go for it. Had the Mxvs on my stock 16s, have the Mxms on my 18s. Top notch in smooth ride/low vibration, and highly rated.

They are fantastic tires as well! Highly regarded on tirerack and raved about on other forums. They currently have a $70 rebate.

I can't possibly drive 149 mph to justify v rated tires where I live, maybe you can.

lol you don't need a V speed rating tire.

I would go with Goodyear triple tread all season (not comfort tread). Or MXV-4

Asking what the "best" tire is...is like asking "hey what is the best tool?" Well if you need to pound a nail a hammer is great. Would you pound that nail in with a crescent wrench because that is some other guys favorite tool? No one tire is the best at everything.

The best way I've found to buy the right tire is to call up Tire Rack, tell them what is important to you (comfy ride, dry traction, snow traction, hydroplane resistance, tread noise etc.). Most others you ask will not have used that many tires or know all the attributes of each like a Tire Rack specialist does.

That said I use the Bridgestone RE760 Sport for summer, which is a high performance tire but fairly quiet and rides pretty good. The Michelens others mentioned will may ride better but don't have handling of a tire like the 760. Downside there is it is not an all-season.

In the winter I use the Michelin X-ice Xi3, happy with the snow performance and it handles and rides well on pavement, better than a Blizzak.

The speed rating reflects more than the max speed the tire can go.

The speed rating has effects on the sidewall stiffness, the construction of the tire, steering response, how well it grips the road, and braking.

A V rated tire will ride "harsher" than an H or T rated tire, but will also perform better.

A lower speed rated tire will be cheaper though, so it's up to you what you pick. But there is a reason why Toyota/Lexus picked the V - Speed Rating, and it isn't because they want you to drive at 149 mph. Load rating is also important.

Keep in mind, if you buy something other than a V- rated tire online any tire service center will not install it on the ES since it is spec'd for V speed rating. By law, they can only install the same speed rating or higher than the car was originally equipped with. So, be prepared and find a shop who is willing to install a lower speed rated tire beforehand if you decide to go that route.

i been spending quality stuff on my 96 ES....all of those parts are great and improves in their ways but one thing i regretted...40,000 warranty Firestone sport tires (485$) ugh cant absorb the road, terrible in snow (obviously isnt all season)and i just dont like it.
bought em last september and still feel sick in my stomach wishing i could get some falken, eagle, hankook tires for similar prices but wayy better and ALLSEASON -_-

I'm with Moonphase on this one. The Hankook's are the best tires I've owned.
