Exclamation Transmission Questions

I was wondering if I'm the only one that has this problem or maybe its normal.

When the car is cold and I shift to D it jerks a little bit but only from P to D other then that it shifts smooth through each gear it just holds the rpm high b4 shifting. Im assuming it to get the motor to operating temp faster?

Also when im on any kind of incline or decline and i put it in park then let off the break it rolls forward or backward and bounces off of some pin i guess in the tranny. Is this bad to let happen? Is it normal and if not how do you stop it?

I believe what you are experiencing is normal, my car does the exact same thing early morning.

As for the Transmission, yes this is normal too, you can stop it however, just utilize the parking brake whenever you are on an incline.

first 30sec-1min of drive, just about coast to let the fluid warm up... then again, I always start the car in the winter 3-5mins before taking off, and about 1-2mins in the summer, and always cruise slow at first.

In terms of it 'clicking' on a hill, there is a pin that keeps it from popping out of gear, if im not mistaken. I'd recommend using your ebrake to reduce some of the stress on the transmission if you feel its rather steep. I use it on mine only when I park on inclines, otherwise everywhere that im at is pretty level so rarely use it.

Ok thanks

And it bouncing on the pin what are the chances of the pin snapping off?

The parking pawl won't snap off unless you really abuse it. To ease the stress, put the car in park while pressing on the brakes, then ease off on the pedal until the parking mechanism catches.

The proper way to use the parking brake and not put stress on the parking pawl is to bring the vehicle to a stop, apply parking brake, and then shift into park. This way the parking brake grabs the drum before being put into park and having the parking pawl engage.

i agree, this is definitely the way to do it. Also when you're going back into drive, release the parking brake after you've shifted into drive.
