Default few quick questions on changing rear brake pads...

Hi,

I have a 99 ES300 and will be changing the rear brake pads and had a few quick questions:

1. Do you have to engage the parking brake when doing this job? (I don't think we need to or the caliper won't come off, correct?)

2. What is the torque amount for the caliper bolt once you go to tighten it?

3. What is the torque amount for the tire lug nut once you go to tighten it?

4. Is there any DIY tutorial for rear brake pads you know of?

Thanks!

If you are not replacing the rotors, no, you do not have to. The parking brake uses the inside shoes.

2. What is the torque amount for the caliper bolt once you go to tighten it?
The smaller caliper bolt is 14 ftlb. The larger bolt is 34 ftlb.

3. What is the torque amount for the tire lug nut once you go to tighten it?
80-100 ftlb

4. Is there any DIY tutorial for rear brake pads you know of?
Most cars are the same. Do a google search.

Because the rear brakes incorporate a parking brake as well, many cars differ in this procedure. The main difference comes in the way you compress the cylinder. Toyota/Lexus use drum shoes on the inside of the rotor to engage the parking brake. Some other cars use a separate caliper for the parking brake, and others have the parking brake integrated with the regular brake caliper (screw type). Basically what that means is that Toyota's do not require any special tools to replace the rear brakes.
