Have a 2006 Lexus ES330
The check engine light is on and find out that it is because of a small evap leakage. The mechanic I am working with is a good guy and a good friend but he says that he cannot fix it since he does not have a equipment to do the smoke or pressure test.
I know the best place to fix it is the dealer but they tend to be very expensive even for small stuff. Looking for recommendation in Washington DC area for fix the small evap leak. Can I just let it be since I only drive 3-4 miles a day except week-ends.
Also I saw this picture http://www.aa1car.com/library/evap_system.htm
and now I am wondering if this could be as the result of an accident I just had. Someone hit me from back and cases $5700 damages - the whole back area and the exhaust system/pipes had to be replaced/repaired. The place suppose to have life time warranties - it is possible that the work they did caused the leakage? Would it make sense if I go back to them? Thanks for all suggestions/tips/opinions in advance
Thanks,

Yes - thanks! The questions are, do I have to do it? Where can I take the car beside the dealer in Washington DC area and the new question is how much should I expect to spend even if I take it to the dealer - thanks!

If you did not have the problem prior to the accident repair, and if your insurance paid for the accident repair than you should contact them and explain the situation. Their adjuster should deal with it. It could very well be the result of the accident or the repair.

Thanks everyone for responding. I still would like to know if this has to be fixed - I know it is not good for the environment (and I know I will fix it) but how urgent is it to fix it? What would be the estimated cost? Thanks again!
