Default Transmission drain and refill

I did a little bit of research and I have still not gotten a definitive answer as to how much fluid I would need if I removed the pan and cleaned the screen and drained it all out. Would it be the full 9 quarts or just the 4 quarts or something in the middle?

Measure how much you remove and refill with same amount, can't be simpler than that.

Make sure it's up to level before you start changing it. Drive car for a few miles to bring up trans temperature. Once it has warmed up, park it on level surface and shift through all the gears down to Low and then back into Park and keep it idling. Now pull the trans dipstick and wipe it and stick it back in and pull it out and your reading should be between 2 HOT marks.

Dropping the pan is the same as doing a drain and refill. You'll need about 4 quarts, give or take. Slightly more if you drain the differential. As somebody else already suggested, measure the amount that you take out so you know how much to put back in.

4 quarts comes out during a normal drain and fill. Dropping the pan is closer to 6. As said earlier, make sure you're at the right level when you start, and measure how much comes out.

Good approach IF trans was filled to correct level to begin with. Unfortunately, this is often a very bad assumption.

This doesn't make sense. The drain hole is in the pan. Are saying that an extra two quarts remain in the pan after draining the fluid through the drain hole? If not, where do the extra two quarts come from and why would it not drain out through the drain hole?

I might be exaggerating the amount of extra fluid, but there is definitely more in the pan, even after you use the drain plug. If I remember correctly, I was draining around 3.5 just through plug in the pan, since I couldn't open the differential. Once I removed the pan, it was 5+ quarts.

I have a 2000 es300
The fluid is dirty and I have a friend who can drop the pan for me.
I found a filter on parts geek and I'm also going to use Toyota OEM T-IV fluid.
I wanted to know how much to get so I know I have enough!
Thanks for all the help so far.

If you're just dumping the pan, then swapping the filter, I think 5 quarts will be sufficient. You might get a 6th just to be safe.

I always do a full flush, with takes 9-10 quarts.

I just did this on my car last week. I bought the filter, O-ring, and a new gasket for the pan. Unfortunately there was one bolt in the pan that I was unable to remove, it was blocked by the suspension member, I tried every possible wrench combination and I couldn't get it loose. The bolts are kinda tight, as they put blue Loc-Tite on them at the factory. Really bugged me that I couldn't get it off, and I have a pretty much every style 10mm wrench known. Anybody ever done this on a 3MZ engine? Do I have to jack the engine up a little bit?

I ended up buying 8 quarts and the trans filter and gasket... If i don't have enough fluid, oh well some of the old gets mixed back in with the new. After I tackle this I need to change my oil and drop the pan while i'm at it to look for the "sludge" build up
