I've noticed that the exhaust pipe is almost like an afterthought in design for
the Lexus, Camary and some other Toyota autos. The pipe seems to be hanging extraordinarily low and would be the first thing to scrape the ground.
Does anyone have an explanation why it wasn't designed to tuck up in and make
the undercarriage completely flat? I think it spoils the look of the car.

Yeah, the first time I washed my car, I noticed the low part of the pipe and worried it was falling off. So, I started looking around, and notice that every ES and Camry from 92 to present has the exact same bend that hangs low.
Perhaps it has to bend around something to get clearance.
