2003 300ES Lexus vs. 1998 ES300
I had a 98 Es Lexus, Oyster Pearl and absolutely loved it. I now have a 2003 ES Millenium Silver. I have to admit that I wasn't as excited over this Lexus because they eleminated the rubberized molding on the bottom of the new 2002 ans 2003 models. I thought that was set the car apart from the other cars on the market. Does anyone else feel that way? I almost feel a little dissapointed, when I questioned my saleman about this, he said many people didn't like the two tone effect. Do I stand alone in liking this feature? Joann

I love also more design of old ES. It looks bigger and more luxury. However, we have no choice.

i think the older es300 have a more conventional luxury look that everyone loves and the new es is a modern luxury look that will take some getting used to.
i'm sure when some cars came out looking different you thought nothing more of them, then after a while you start changing your mind.

But the new ES is bigger (in both length and height), and to me it appears that way visually.
As for luxury, I agree with the previous poster that the old ES has a classic luxury look, while the new ES has a modern luxury look. Some people think Lexus overdid it, with the oversized headlight treatment. It seems Toyota is doing this with more of their models, although perhaps not to the same degree. If I remember correctly, the new RX330 has the swept-back headlight treatment as well.
As for actual luxury, there's no comparison. The new ES is the first time any ES has been referred to as a "baby LS". The old ES is sportier.

Personally, I like the monotone treatment. It looks clean and classy.
Ghetto-Pimp's maroon/dark maroon combo is my favorite on the ES, and it looks very close to montone too. The Pearl White and dark underbody treatment is one of the few two-tones I like.
On the contrast, my mom's Sienna is Desert Sand (GOLD) on gray/silver, and it just doesn't look right.
According to an article I read in the Chicago Tribune, the majority of people prefer the monotone look. The car looks like one clean piece of metal. With two-tone, the car looks disconnected, lacking unity in design.

My reason for liking the two tone is it set it apart from the the other cars, like the toyota camry--which btw my neighbor said my 98 ES 300 (oyster pearl, w/cream interior) was just a camry with all the bells and whistles.
No comment so far from the dear neighbor on my new 2003! The interior of my new lexus (black) feels more luxurious than my 98--probably just because it's new!
one more thing, I had a hard time choosing between the millennium silver and the alabaster, I ended up choosing the milleninum silver with black interior.
Those two colors are so similar, why did they do that?

yeah two-tone is a great unique touch Lexus has put on its cars, but some colors don't look too good two-tone. i like the white and the black in monotone because the gray on the bottom doesn't always work too well in my eyes. i still have a two-tone, but i would still prefer a monotone over a two-tone.
Lexus is just creating a billion different colors these days. i think the alabaster has a bit more of a pearlish hue to it rather than pure silver.
