1997 ES Motor in a 1993
I have a 1993 ES with a dead motor, and a crapload 'o miles on the tranny. It seems it has been a lot easier to find motor/tranny combos in newer ES cars. Specifically, I would like to know if it's possible to swap my motor/tranny and/or ECU for a 1997. I don't have a ton of experience with Lexus, and wasn't sure how much the cars differed at that level between those years.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated! It's very difficult to even find just a list of what motors would be an easy swap.
Thanks!

To do this you would have to get the wiring diagrams for both year cars and change the correct wires in order for the new engine to work. It would be a lot easier if you got the entire engine harness and ECU from the donor car.

I have a 93 es300 and have the motor and the transmission changed because they died. Now the number solendid is bad in the tranny I just want to sell the car now it drives but not quite right. Figured if I list it for $5000 maybe could get that.

1992-93 have the old (iron block) motor. I would think the easiest way to fit a later motor into your car would be to get the 1994-1996 engine/trans WITH the subframe. The attachment points for the subframe should be the same, and the ECU/wire harness is still routed about the same way. Frank
