Default ES300 valve tap

My 97 es300 has some noisy valve tap that doesn't seem to want to stop.

Things I've done so far:

Oil change with Rislone
1qt of ATF fluid with 5w30 oil for 100 miles
Oil flush prior to oil change
Oil change and fill with 15w40 diesel oil

Still noisy. Should I just reshim all of the buckets to get rid of all the noise?

If anyone has any other suggestions on how to get rid of the noise, please let me know.

Thanks!

I had the tap for about 70k miles and there were no problems. If you're willing to leave it, theres no ill effects, at least i didnt see any. If you aren't i think the only way to get rid of it is to re-adjust them.

Whatever you end up doing, get that 15W40 diesel oil out of there ASAP, and put back the specified 5W30 oil.

I had valve noise start around 150k and I just left it alone. At 176k it dropped a valve and locked up the motor. You need to get those valves adjusted!

Ditto the valve adjustment idea.

Thanks for the info guys. I agree with getting the 15w40 out and the 5w30 back in there. I am selling the car soon so I really didn't feel like tearing the intake off and reshimming the rear head. But I guess if it doesn't sell with the noise, I will have to tear it down.

The car has 183k on it. It would be nice if there was an easy fix.

I shimmed my 2JZGTE motor but it was much easier with the motor out and on the stand.

Anyone know if the shims are the same size for the 1MZ-FE?

I've ignored it all this time... Mine gets noticeable only when I run my A/C, otherwise with the hood up you can barely hear it, let alone with it closed.

My 2000 has a tapping noise such that I brought it into a 3rd party import specialist, they told me that it was the fuel injectors making noise and it was perfectly normal. Told me that they make noise like that is good because it tells them the FI's are working.
