I hate to discourage anyone, but.......

Someone (I think it was sean) stated in an earlier thread that a rebuilt tranny alone will be around $3000. Add the cost of all the other items needed for the swap, and you'll be looking at a pretty expensive total. Of course, it CAN be done. The Toyota Camry SE V6 had the same engine and was offered with a 5-speed. But, like the old saying goes, "speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?"

i sure wouldn't suggest it, but if you love the ES that much, then i say go for it. i'd stay with the ES if i could, but once the ES is gone, it's gone. i'll have to take up another Lexus

well i found this place where i can get all the other stuff for about 400.00 plus a 93 es tranny for 600.00 so it would cost me about a grand for the parts and about 3-5 hundred for work, thats about what most people pay to put a sound system in there car.

Whoa....those prices are really cheap. I'd like to know where you're getting the inexpensive parts and labor! Tranny swap for the same price as a sound system.......wow. If you can really get hooked up like that......then go for it! You'll be the first person to do an ES300 tranny swap.

i am getting them at that price b/c of a car club that i'm in. we can get lots of stuff at a reasonable price (sometimes cheaper). Me and the car crew are going to put it in ourselves (most of the guys are machanics and know what they are doing.

Default same boat

ya with the loss of my tranny ive been forced to change mine too, please post all the problems like computer, speedometer, etc if any that you run into and ill try to do the same.

well see how it goes

and i just bought the trans today rebuilt for $588, including all the extra parts like the fly wheel, clutch plate clutch master, shifter etc... etc... i guess i got a good deal. and the best part is there was no labor chares and tons of personal satisfaction when doing it myself.
