Default ABS/Dust deflector/Axle/hub assembly

My 96 lexus recently seemed to have some kind of grinding noise from drivers front suspension, located what I thought was the problem. (please see pic) The dust deflector seemed to of been bent up. I removed this piece to stop the grinding noise. Only to hear a new very strange noise. Coming from that area. the best description I can give is a vibrational sound accompanied by the sound of someone shifting a stickshift into gear but never getting into the gear. This of course is while driving. I thought I located the problem, (new hub assembly) mind you brand new bearings were put in August. But after research it may not be my assembly. My backyard mechanic suggests buying everything, knuckle, hub assembly, bearings. That should clear it up. My dad drove the car, he said this is NOT bearings and it is a noise he has never heard before, and is stumped. I keep thinking someone has got to know. I cannot replace everything only to find out it is not that. My mechanic seems to think the abs broke off and got caught on this dust deflector which caused the damage. MY question is WHY did the abs break off and could this new noise be related to the abs? The axle seems ok, the rotor is fine, brakes are good. I am also questioning transmission mounts? If anyone has had a similar situation or knows anything about abs please speak up ;**
