Default 96 ES300 Moon Roof question

The car has an ASC Moon Roof,
1. Is this stock or aftermarket?

2. It has 4 buttons. 1 to open, 1 to close, 1 for vent & the last one has ASC printed on it, this button flashes a dull red and when pushed on it depresses like the other buttons but it does'nt do anything.

I don't know if this indicates a problem or not.

The Moon Roof does work fine.

I appreciate any help.

That sounds aftermarket to me, although technically it could have been a dealer installed option. The thing you said about the flashing light seems non-Lexus. So do the words "ASC".

Maybe button number 4 is a programmable garage door opener,
similar to the 3 "Home Link" buttons found in newer Lexi (is that plural for Lexus?)

I assume by you asking, there is nothing in the manual.

See if there is any small printing on the glass (maybe in a corner), may give you a number to call.

ASC is an aftermarket sunroof supplier. Just curious, when it slides, does it go between the roof and the headliner (like a factory roof), or does the glass go outside the car and above the roof?

I just bought the car and it did not come with a manual, but I found ASC on the web and talked to them last night.

The button is for turning the auto close mode on and off. The reason it is flashing is that the battery in the car was replace and the sunroof lost its memory on the distance it is supposed to open when you push and release the open button.

The sunroof opens inside like a factory one, the install on it was done very well, it looks like it belongs.

Sounds pretty cool, with memory and auto-close. The factory roofs don't have one-touch operation, you must keep your finger on the button. Additionally, as a "safety feature", when closing, it stops halfway, and you must press the button again. I love the VW/Audi setup where you simply dial in how far you want to open the roof.

Oh, no wonder why it stops halfway..... I always thought mine was broken that way.

the factory install in the '02 ES has one touch operation and can even be opened from outside of the car remotely.

I agree, I'm annoyed by the fact that I have to look dumb by holding the button down, and then twice just to close it. It sucks.

ASC is an aftermarket company so yes, your moonroof is an aftermarket unit. ASC although is the company responsible for doing the convertible conversions for Toyota (i.e Solara & Celica).

That's not true on newer starting around 97 or so on Toyota and Lexus models.

My Solara has a factory moonroof with one touch open AND close.
