Correct tire size for Lexus IS rims
Hey guys,
Im thinking about purchasing these lexus IS rims for my es300. They are 17 inch rims. I would like to now what tire size I should get or what you guys are rocking on your es300. Below is what my rims looks like.. just wanna know what tires will fit them. Right now my es300 has the stock 205/65/15 tires on them.
I would like tires that wont sacrifice the ride to much and it will still be comfortable to drive in.

Those aren't IS rims... But if you get them for a good price, you can turn around and sell them for a cool 5-700$ depending on the condition of the set to one of the GS' guys, since those are 'rare'... I'm kinda jealous myself lol.
Those come on the 2nd gen. Lexus GS, and are wider than the IS wheels... 17x8 ET 50
Where the IS is 17x7.5 ET50
But, if you do want to run them, the tirerack site calls for a 205/50R17 - stupid tire size with **** selection.
You can get a 225/45R17 which is the [common as dirt & stock fitment on a lot of cars], for cheaper and wider selection overall.
Good luck, post pics if you get them.

Oh really? I confused them for the IS rims.. they look very similar !! Regardless I still want them. Im hoping that chrome looks good on my es300.
Out of the 2 options you posted which of the 2 would be a wider tire? I wanna go for that wide look.
They both should ride about the same right? as far as handling.. I really dont wanna feel the road

well, you're going to feel it, especially when coming from a 15" wheel.
MY 2001 has 16" so the change wasn't bad, but in the end I ended up with a second set [in chrome] for summer use [& winter use].
It won't be as smooth as you're used to now.
The 225 [width ratio] is the wider, but keep in mind you'll most likely need spacers to run those due the offsets and they'll most definitely hit the rear struts. Front's may be fine.
I would not go any wider than that tire, since the OE tire for that wheel is a 235/45/17, but the GS has larger arches than the 'little' ES, so clearing the struts, even with a spacer may prove to be hard.

I had IS300 rims on my Solara.
I ran 215/50/17 on them, to get the closest match in overall diameter. Stock size was 205/60/16. Used 3mm spacers in the rear to clear the struts.
The jump from 16 to 17's definitely hampered ride quality, riding much stiffer over bumps and increased road feel through the steering wheel.
Braking performance was significantly reduced as the IS300 wheels were really heavy. The wheels would never lock up no matter how hard I pushed the pedal. I'm glad I ditched those wheels and am back on the stock setup.

Im having second thoughts now because its about to be winter and all the tire shops said I have to go with a performance low profile tire ... I really want some all season tires or radials .. would that be possible with these rims?

I got 215/50/17 tires on my IS wheels and installed a 10mm hub centric spacers with 10mm longer studs. No problems other than slight rubbing on rear arches and rolling the rear fenders is recommended. Since I'm gonna buy another set of wheels I'm going to roll the rears to make clearance. Wheels are a bit heavy but it a nice upgrade versus my factory 15's.
