Default Oil Change Question

I have a '96 Es300 w/ 75k miles now. I drive this car between 5k-6k miles a year since I take mass transit to work. I usually get my oil change every 4k miles since I drive my car like and old lady and don't abuse it. But it usually takes me about 9-10 months to run up 4k miles. Is it okay to leave the same oil in there for more than 3 months? Does the oil get bad if I don't change it for 10 months even if I don't drive that much?

Thanks

From what understand the ES and some toyota(sienna) engines have a Gelling problem . It hink its caused by local short distance driving . If I were in your shoes i would change it evry 3-4 months regardless . just my opinion .

I'll second that.
This guestion often comes up in my local newspaper column "The Auto Doctor" authored by an excellent mechanic in MA. This column is syndiacated and appears in many newspapers as well as on a Sat. afternoon radio show out of Boston.

If the car accumulates very low miles, the oil should be changed AT LEAST every 4 months.

I would change the oil every 3k or 3months which ever comes first. Short distance driving is the worst for your car. Get her on the freeway and let her breath.
