1997 Lexus ES300 Wood Steering Wheel Conversion ...
Hello All!
I'm new to the forum, and new to the Lexus scene! Just picked up a 97 es300 a few weeks ago to replace a Cadillac! ...
I've read most of the posts about the steering wheel conversion, and I understand how to do it completely! .. I've just noticed, there is a lack of wood steering wheels for 2000 - 2001 on ebay! ... I have, however, seen quite a few wheels for the LS400 - 430 and LX470 models ... What I'm wondering is if anyone has attempted to put a LS or LX wheel on an ES300? If you have, will my current airbag mount up to them? ...
Seeing that my wheel is currently a dark tan / grey color, my only other option is to put the black wheel and trim and dye the airbag to match ..... Any thoughts??
Thx ..

I dont know if an LS or LX wood steering wheel could be adapted to fit, however I do know that it's wood trim will not match your wood interior. It wii looks totally out of place.
There are companies, I know of at least one, ( carid.com ) that will refurbish your own steering wheel and put the wood trim on it to match your original. I think that they also sell kits so that you can do it yourself.
It's a hassle however, as you need to send them your steering wheel, and than wait for it to OEM back. Its also a few hundred dollars for that.
