California Model?

California Model?
I have a 1998 ES300 with 217K on it and a bad B1S1 O2 sensor. When I took it in (to Sears) to have it replaced (couldn't reach it myself), they informed me that my car had a California emissions package and that I needed an air/fuel ratio sensor instead.
OK, no problem. But my question is, how could I have known that ahead of time? I bought it in 2000 off lease (from New York). How can you tell which ones are California models and which aren't?

There is an emissions sticker on the underside of the hood, near the latch. It should say CA on it. You could also run your VIN by the local Lexus dealer and they can find out if your car is CA spec or not.
It's good that Sears found that out and let you know, as the regular O2 sensors will cause a CEL to come on.
