OK I have a 98 es 300. About 275k on it. Its been sitting due to weather. Last time I drove it was in January. I started making a weird ticking sound then just shut off. The engine didn't blow. But now it won't start. I know there are different sensors that can cause this. Has anybody ever had or heard of this happening? Any ideas? Without a computer to scan it I don't want to just start buying expensive sensors for nothing. Anybody have any ideas or know how I can pull codes myself?

Start by spending about $30-$40 on an inexpensive obd || code reader. Without it you're working blind, and guessing.
Was your car outdoors the whole time, or was it stored indoors in a warm garage?
Of course also check the obvious, oil level, fuel, battery charge, etc..

Yup. Oil is good..maybe a quart low. Brand new battery. Car is outside. I figured getting the scan tool. Looking to spend as little as possible. I know these sensors aren't cheap. And I want to use the good ones. I priced the knock sensor at 180. It cranks normal. Just won't fire. Even tried ether I. The intake hose. Nothing. But when I drove it last I kept Getting the misfire code. I would clean my o2 sensors and it would run great for a month or so and back to it again. The odd ticking sound before it shut off made me think it was a knock sensor. But I'm going to borrow a friends ohm meter and test the cam and crank sensors. But if anybody has any in site on this plz hit me up.

Check the ignition system if your getting spark. Also check out the fuel system (fuel pump) to see if its operating properly. There's a small possibility moisture in your gas line could have frozen up in the cold sitting there causing a blockage.

a working knock sensors won't cause the engine to stall. They will cause the engine to change how it operates and it'll retard or advance the timing to try and get rid of the knock or ping.
Do as speedkar9 and PFB have said. Get an OBD II scanner. The next places I would check is for spark and fuel.

Ok everybody..its been a bit..but ibhave made some break tbroughs..I had a bad coil pack. Replaced it. Did a shot of ether and it fired up. Im getting fuel..according to autozone my pressure should be 44-52 lbs..i also read somewere that the iac valve can mak it not start..thats my next step..if that dont do it im gonna drop the tank..the only code i was getting was for that coil pack. So i obviously have a fuel issue. Plan to clean out throttle bore and change fuel filter. If anybody has any other things they know tbat could cause tbis..by all means. Please advise
