Code p0773 selinoid e malfunction. How much is selinoid and how much should repair be. Or should I buy the book on my 95 es and attempt to repair it myself? Anyone with knowlege on this subject is much appriciated. F.Y.I. Lexus was going to charge me about $500 parts and labor. It felt like they were trying to rip me a new one, but now that I know what the prob. is I might go to toyota. Please help.

I don't think it would be easy to take apart the solenoid and replace the parts inside. It's like taking a switch apart and replacing the contacts. If you can just get the entire solenoid, may be used, then you can replace it yourself.

Do not replace any (expensive) part unless you are 100% sure it is defective or insecure. In your case you may have an open or short in the circuit and not in the SL solenoid itself, especially if the shifting is OK. Take a look at the attached inspection procedure for the P0773 DTC.

IN my 97 SC300 5 spd swap Option-1 What i did was I removed all selinoid out of auto tranny ..mounted it on to R154 tranny & replugged to tranny harness.. it works fine check engine light goes away if you reset battery, but check engine light comes back after in few weeks driving?..Option-2 So I just replace my Auto ECU to a 97 5spd w/OBD-II I found on Ebay ..Check Engine never came back
..hope this helps
