Default ECU question

I was planning to buy a ecu yesterday on ebay but im confused. On ebay it say model after 2001 need a master key but when i check on the forum about the ecu it say 1997-2001 es300 model would need a master key. So do i really need a master key for my lexus es300 1997 to change out the ecu? or i wouldn't need it? Also here my other question when i remove my original ecu and change out with the another ecu from ebay. Would i need to do anything or it just simple as that plug and play?

Which ECU from ebay are you talking about?
You can get your factory one rebuilt, no need to reprogram, etc.

Do you have keyfob on 97 like they do on 96s? If so then it has chip inside and you'll need to reprogram your key etc, Just send yours in and get it rebuilt.
