Looking at buying a 2001 ES300
So, I found a retired woman who is selling her 2001 ES300 with 99, 200 miles.
The price is is right so I am going to take a look at it tomorrow.
Here is what has been done : timing belt, water pump, front and back struts (entire chassy), transmission service, new tires, regular oil changes, new battery. She states its been well maintained and she has all receipts.....
However, she stated that the entire instrument panel (gauge cluster) does not illuminate. I realize there could be several reasons for that but is that enough to walk away?
I thought I read somewhere that this is not an uncommon issue with ES300's. I am willing to get my hands dirty but if a new gauge cluster unit is going to be expensive
I will have to pass.
Need your expert opinions please. Thanks!

As long as you can read the odometer and verify its correctly registering mileage, it should be a matter of replacing the back-lighting. As 01LEXPL mentioned, you can pick up a used ES300 cluster from a junkyard and swap in the new parts.
