um, ooooh.... i got price ranges anywhere from $2000-$3500. I know that I already said that there's a good chance the tranny's shot, but if you have the time, I would like for you to get another opinion. Or at least try to find out the mechanics behind the explanation, "the tranny's shot." why? because $3000 is a lot of money.

hang in there...i was in your EXACT same position just a few weeks ago. I regret selling my ES and haven't really been happy ever since.

Hey...buddy your best bet is to purchase an extended warantee from a reputable company, let them know your mileage and then claim your tranny repair two weeks after. Its the difference between 1500.00 and 3000.00. Only with the 1500, you get full coverage on the entire car. Some companies can cover you to 150K. Wish you the best. Keep us posted.

I don't think so. I believe the '94-'96 got a new, or at least revised, tranny. Looking through old Lexus brochures, the '94+ tranny is reffered to as ECT-i (i= 'intelligence') while the '92-'93 is just ECT. I'm not sure if the transmissions are interchangable though, I would bet that it could be done with a little work. Have you thought about looking for a 5-speed manual? I remember some of the guys here were getting used manuals for not a lot of money.

the tranny is different as well as the engine yours is a cast iron block
the 1mzfe 94-96 is all aluminum
a cheap alternative to extend the car a bit is to do a fluid change but also clean the filter underneath inside the tranny pan
i had problem
much like yours2 years ago
put the car up got under it and dropped the tranny pan pulled out the filter put it back with new fluid and no problem since but i now it is still slipping a bit but i have learned to drive with the tranny to save it and my pocket by letting up on the gas when it is about to shift
with the car cold it will probably go no where no as the fluid is cold and clogging the filter with clutch debris sludge
the filter is not made to be replaced or even serviced costs about 70 from the dealer which is a cheap investment

i really hope this helps

not a hard fix but is really only a band aid to get you running for a while
hey look at me 2 years later still going strong
it has about 15 bolts to removed the tranny pan plus 1 hex nut to drain the fluid first
you need a new gasket and filter for parts 60 minutes and you should be ok

good luck drop me a line if i can help more

Unhappy

Took the tranny apart and we found the problem, a little o ring between gears broke from age and the gears started grinding together and wearing down the metal. $2500 due to a 30 cent o ring, funny how things work out
