the brake pedal feels tight when i decelerate from 40mph and up. i get the feeling that the pads arent producing enough friction. i recall 4 instances where i have stomped on the brakes. one time i had to decelerate from 120 in short amount of distance. no doubt in my mind that the abs is functioning properly!

First of all, how many miles do you have and when was the last time you had your brakes serviced or pads replaced?

raise and safely support the car. Pop off one front wheel.
Stick you head under the fender, look for the brake wear indication slots on the pad itself. You have to look perpendicular to the caliper. If you can still see the slots in the pads, then you still have some life left.
Look at you rotors too, they may be just glazed. A simple DIY temporary fix is to completely clean the rotors with Brake Clean.
You may have gotten some grease or a splash of oil on the rotor.
Last option, take it to Midas, Speedy, or Lexus and have a simple brake inspection.
